Podium Employees Clock More Than 4,500 Cycling Miles

Back in October, Podium Distribution makers of DVS Shoes, Matix Clothing and Lakai Footwear announced Pedal To Podium—an employee program aimed at cutting auto emissions and encouraging personal health and wellness through biking. Many employees stepped up to the challenge and a dedicated six took it all the way by pedaling a consecutive
30 days to work.

These six employees pedaled a combined total of more than 3,500 miles, burned approximately 340,000 calories, saved roughly $300 dollars on gas, and prevented approximately 3,500 lbs. of harmful CO2 emissions from entering the atmosphere. The combined number of days these riders pedaled was roughly the equivalent of taking one car off the road for an entire year.

Web Director Josh Caffrey was by far the most dedicated rider, pedaling over 1,100 miles. In a straight line, that’s like biking from Los Angeles to San Antonio, Texas.

"I bragged about this program to all my friends and family.” says Caffrey. “Stuff like this is why I love working here. I'd like to keep commuting in as much as I can, gotta keep that fitness up for the next round of Pedal to Podium!"

DVS Skate Team Manager, Gabe Clement had a similar experience. “Of course the cash reward at the end of the 30 days was enough to keep the motivation going for me,” says Clement. “But what really was rewarding was the actual act of getting on my bike, riding and the feeling of getting to work with a clear head.”

"I can’t wait for ‘Pedal to Podium’ to get started again," says David Kang from Accounting. "It’s what got me into riding and now I’m hooked. Not only is it great exercise and you help out Mother Earth, but there’s an incentive too! Amazing. Get involved."

Intl. Sales Manager Justin Reyes had this to say. "Except for the day I front flipped into a river, wrecked my bike, had to change my clothes in a bar, and was late to work, Pedal to Podium was awesome!"

Podium VP Brian Dunlap says he’s very pleased with Pedal To Podium’s success and plans to keep it in place as an ongoing program.

“I was really excited to see how many people participated in the program, says Podium VP Brian Dunlap. “When it was first discussed there where only a hand full of people I thought would get involved and as soon as we put some incentives together people I never thought jumped on board. We plan on having a new program set for February and hope to get more of the employees involved for this round.”

Everyone at Podium would like to say “Congrats” to long time DVS athlete Thomas Horrell for opening his new store in Miami, Keiren Cycles. We'd also like to extend a big "thanks" to Swobo bikes, take a look at all the new products from Swobo. Also be sure to check out the new Swobo Sanchez coming real soon. Special thanks to DVS snowboard pro Jussi Oksanen who provided the Pedal To Podium riders with Mizu water bottles during the competition.
